Dear BackupEDGE User,
It has been a while since we've had a newsletter for you. Here is the latest news from Microlite.
BackupEDGE 03.01.05 build 2
Here is the BackupEDGE 03.01.05 changelog.
- Support for Amazon S3 "signature version 4" (see below).
- Improved XFS filesystem handling in Linux.
- Compression Level added to Backup Reports.
- Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 support (build 2).
As always, you can find the latest information about any changes in our Changelog.
Amazon S3 Signature Version 4.
In Novermber 2014 we released our original S3CLOUD support as a replacement and cheaper option to our Amazon DevPay (AWS) support. It supported all 8 Amazon Regions around the world in place at that time.
Since then, Amazon has rolled out signature version 4 authentication to all their new Regions, and also supports it in the old Regions as well. 03.01.05 and later support all 14 Amazon Regions around the world.
Amazon is killing DevPay on July 31, 2017. If you are still using the AWS Resource type instead of the S3CLOUD Resource type...
- You are going to lose all of your backups on August 1, 2017.
- You are paying more than you need to be paying for cloud storage.
If you have stopped using DevPay but have not disabled it, you are still paying $20 per month (or potentially more if you have a lot of online backups stored).
YouTube Channel + New Training Videos
We have prepared a new series of three training videos on using Amazon S3 S3CLOUD Resources with BackupEDGE. These have been posted, along with our older training videos, on our YouTube Channel.
The three new videos are...
- Lesson 1 - Terminology Primer. (5:26)
- Lesson 2 - Creating Buckets & Authenticating in EDGEMENU. (8:19)
- Lesson 3 - Using Custom Policies with BackupEDGE to control access to Amazon S3 Buckets. (9:16)
We welcome your suggestions for new training videos that might help you to better use and understand BackupEDGE. Please send an email to sales@microlite.com with your suggestions.
